The Britax Advocate Clicktight Convertible seat is one of the most popular choices that parents choose. It comes up on many websites when I was researching the best seats. So, let’s review it and see why it is or isn’t a great choice.
Why is it so popular?
The Britax Advocate Clicktight is one of the safest car seats around. It solves two of the most common problems with car seats: proper installation and loose straps.
Following the installation instructions is super easy on this seat. It is nearly impossible to install improperly. You can feel assured that this seat is stable when clicked into place. The way it is installed looks a bit different than most seats that you see, as you lift the seat up, and the belt goes under it.
When it comes to the straps, there is an audible “click” to help you be sure you have the straps tightened. There is a Click & Safe Harness indicator. The harness also has 14 different positions and a 2-position buckle which move easily to give you a comfortable fit on your child as they grow bigger. There is no need to re-thread the straps, ever, which is great news!
The Advocate has 7 different recline positions with an automatic level indicator to ensure proper recline when rear facing and the best fit forward facing.
There is 3 layers of side impact protection that absorb energy and shield your child from collision. Parents who have had this seat and been involved in an accident, say their children come out without a scratch and have bought a second one.
Your child can use this seat up to 65 pounds, and 49″ tall.
What are the cons?
Some parents don’t like the cup holders on this seat, as they are removable, which means some children figure out how to remove them and throw them around the backseat.
The cost of this seat is around $350, which makes it one of the more expensive options in the convertible seat. You could use this seat for your infant as well (as long as they weigh 5 pounds), making it the only seat you would need up until a booster. But then you lose that convenience that the infant seats offer with the carrying, so that’s up to you and what you prefer.
What else should you know?
Britax does make another seat, the Boulevard, which is almost identical to the Advocate. The biggest difference is that there is only one layer of side impact protection. This makes the seat smaller than the Advocate, if space is an issue for you. It also makes it a bit cheaper.
The cushioning on this seat is different from other seats in that it comes off in pieces. You can easily remove just a section and wash it in your machine, and then re-attach it.
Britax also sells replacement cover seats for their car seats, so if you wanted to use this seat for the full years of its life, and there were to be stains or a tear, just a cover can be purchased instead of another seat.
They also make a rebound bar. This will come with some models, or can be purchased separately. It increases stability when the seat is rear facing, by managing crash energy and reducing injury risk.
Many people who have purchased this seat, are more than happy with their purchase. The seat makes the parents feel safe, and their children comfortable. If the Britax Advocate ClickTight Convertible seat is in your price range, it is great purchase for you and your child, that will last through their childhood.
