Cybex Sirona M – 2018 Best Convertible Car Seat

We’re at that time of year, awards season. There is an award for almost anything, and car seats are not excluded from that.

2018 Best Convertible Car Seat

The Cybex Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 has won at the Best of Baby for the Best Convertible Car Seat. This seat is nothing short of amazing!

It also won the 2018 Best of Baby Tech award for Safety. It is the first car seat to have a sensor and an app for your phone. The sensor is built into the chest clip of the harness.

What is SensorSafe?

The SensorSafe app is genius when it comes to the safety of your baby. It will alert you if the interior temperature of your vehicle is too hot,

or too cold. The backseat doesn’t feel like the front seat, and your baby can’t tell you yet if they are warm enough. This lets you know they are comfortable. Continue reading “Cybex Sirona M – 2018 Best Convertible Car Seat”

Britax Advocate Convertible Seat – One of the Most Popular Choices

The Britax Advocate Clicktight Convertible seat is one of the most popular choices that parents choose. It comes up on many websites when I was researching the best seats. So, let’s review it and see why it is or isn’t a great choice.

Why is it so popular?

The Britax Advocate Clicktight is one of the safest car seats around. It solves two of the most common problems with car seats: proper installation and loose straps.

Following the installation instructions is super easy on this seat. It is nearly impossible to install improperly. You can feel assured that this seat is stable when clicked into place. The way it is installed looks a bit different than most seats that you see, as you lift the seat up, and the belt goes under it. Britax-clicktight

Booster Car Seats – For when your baby becomes a big kid!

Booster car seats are the last car seat that your child will use. But don’t rush into getting to this stage. In order to be following the laws, your child has to have outgrown the requirements on their front-facing seat before being moved to a booster seat.

According to AAA, the requirements normally include that your child be over 40 pounds, under 4’9″, be at least 4 years old, and at least 35″ tall. Outgrowing the front facing seat normally means the child is too tall for the harness system.

There are three types of booster seats. A cushioned seat (booster), a high-backed booster, and a convertible booster.

Convertible Booster (Harness Booster)

I’m starting backwards from my list, in case this is one of your first stops.

A convertible booster is a seat that your child can use front facing with a 5-point harness, then use as a high-back booster, and lastly, as a booster seat.

The Graco Nautilus 65 is a great option for a convertible booster seat. Yourgraco-nautilus child can use it beginning at 22 pounds, secured with a 5-point harness system. It converts to a high backed booster and a backless booster, securing your child with your car’s seat belt. All the seat pads are machine washable, and the seat has open-loop belt guides to help you correctly position the seat belt. It is reasonably priced at $150.

High-Backed Booster Seats

Not all high-backed booster seats turn into just a booster seat, be sure to read the details when purchasing. Most are 2 in 1’s. Continue reading “Booster Car Seats – For when your baby becomes a big kid!”

Car Seats for Special Needs Children

If you have a child with special needs, you might be wondering if there is seat options for your child above the standard one’s you normally find on the store shelves. There is, and they have been made to adapt for your child, and I have a few of the best rated one’s below!

Britax Advocate ClickTight

The Britax Advocate ClickTight ARB Cool Flow Convertible Car Seat has an average 4.4 stars out of 5. It can be used both rear facing and forward.britax=advocate-seat

There is nothing added on to make this car seat especially for special needs children. It has a cool mesh fabric to help your child be more comfortable on trips. The seat comes with extra layers of side protection, and has been highly praised on how well it stays in place in the vehicle and how well it performs in an accident. The head protection is outstanding. This seat is just a great piece of mind for your child through their preschool years.

The installation process for this seat is as easy as buckling a seat belt. You feed the seat belt through, and click it shut. That’s it. There is a Click & Safe Snug Harness indicator, which will click and let you know when the harness has been pulled tight enough to keep your child safe. Which car seats do celebrities use?

To some people, this topic is probably a bit insane. But to others, it isn’t, because they see celebrities online or in the magazines carrying their baby in a car seat carrier. So, for the fun of it, I’ve found the most popular choices, and you would be surprised at how normal their choices are!

Here we go: Which car seats do celebrities use?

Maxi Cosi Mico 10 Max

This is the one I found to be the most widely used infant car seat by celebrities. And it can be found at your normal online retailers! Yay!

Details: Comes in a variety of five different colors.maxi-cosi-mico30-carseat

It has air protect side impact protection plus moisture-wicking premium fabrics. It comes with an insert that provides head and neck support for those smaller babies, and also a seat pad that can be removed without needing to un-thread the harness. Machine washable and dryer safe seat pad. The seat itself without the base only weighs a little over 8 pounds. Not bad to carry around.

They make a fairly cheap adapter for their car seat bases that will allow this seat to be compatible with 13 different stroller brands!

Of the one hundred reviews that I read, moms love how cozy and snug their babies are in this seat. They also love the machine washable pads, and that the material is moisture-wicking. The seat seems to be more lightweight compared to other brands.

The cons that I read were few. Some people have a hard time with the harness straps, they feel that they twist easily. Others say the car seat base seems to take up more room in the back seat than other brands.

Safety 1st Advance SE 65 Air+ Convertible Car Seat, Newbury

Sometimes, these car seat names get to be a bit much, don’t you think? It’d be hard for me to remember this name when asking for help in a store!

This is a very popular option for celebrities when moving out of the infant seat stage, and into the convertible seat stage. Honestly, it’s reviews don’t make it out to be near a good of seat as others that I have reviewed. It averages 3.7 out of 5 stars on multiple sites. But then, it also makes Amazon’s top choice list, so it’s all about preference on what kind of features you are looking for. This seat is reasonably priced, Safety 1st Advance SE 65 Air+ Convertible Car Seat, Newbury between $132-$

Details: This seat offers an extended weight range compared to others. From 5-40 pounds rear facing, and up to 65 pounds front facing. It has a 10 position headrest to grow along with your baby, and also a 4 position recline system.

Pros that moms like about this seat are that their children seem very comfortable, and for those that have been involved in an accident or a roll-over, their babies did not receive a scratch on them! The safety points on this seat are incredible, and seem to be the main factor over small inconveniences when purchasing.

Middle ground on this seat is that it is bigger than other convertible car seats. It seems to be a much more suitable fit for those with SUV’s and vans over compact cars. I’ve seen some pictures of kids in this seat, and it does look bigger, like it really hugs around your child, even when they are 3 years old, which is probably really comfy for them.

Cons: It seems quite a few people struggle with the installation of this seat. I’m not sure if the instruction manual isn’t very well written, or if it’s the straps that they are having a problem with. I would recommend finding a YouTube video on installation. (Bless those parents who make those videos, it’s saved my behind!)

There are celebrities who have $2000 infant car seat carriers that I can’t even find for sale in the US, let alone any reviews. Are they practical, are they safe, are they comfy? I have no idea, but I do know that these two seats are popular, and can be researched and purchased on a budget by any family.

Baby Strollers and Car Seats – Did you know they combine?

Having a baby means going everywhere together, they depend on you since they can’t be mobile by themselves yet! So, maybe you’ve got the infant car seat already, maybe you are still researching. But did you know, baby strollers and car seats can combine, and be sold separately or together?

Chicco Brand Travel Systems

chicco-seat-stroller-comboChicco offers many travel systems, and their website is very easy to navigate and help you through the process. They have a tool that will ask you questions and get you recommendations on what you need. I highly recommend if you are just starting the research on travel systems, or really don’t know where to start.

The Bravo Travel Systems are a personal recommendation of mine. These strollers are very easy to fold and carry. Out of all the brands, these strollers seem to fold up the most compact if taking up space is a concern for you.

All the KeyFit, KeyFit 30 and Fit 2 infant car seats fit into the stroller via the child tray, and it clicks right in. Very simple.

Then, once your baby is bigger, the stroller has multi-positioning reclining backrest, a canopy, tray with 2 cup holders, and an extra seat cushion. There is also a parent tray with 2 cup holders and a storage compartment. It has a padded push-handle with 3 height positions (awesome idea, all moms aren’t the same height!), and an all-wheel suspension for a smooth ride.

This stroller can fit your child up to 50 pounds.

Baby Trend Travel System

Amazon’s Choice of baby stroller and car seat combination is Baby Trend Expedition Jogger. There are 10 different color options, if that is important to you!

This is the travel system that I purchased a few years ago. The big difference between this one and the Chicco one, is the wheels. This stroller is considered a “jogger”, meaning it has 3 wheels, and they have air in them like bicycle tires, it is made for all terrains. I live on gravel roads, so this really worked better over having four smaller wheels.

It is recommended that if you are going to use the stroller for jogging/running, that you don’t do this with the infant car seat attached. This is for when your baby is big enough to be strapped in the 5-point harness system in the stroller.

Any of the Baby Trend Flex-Loc infant seats are compatible with the stroller. They click into the child tray and release with the push of a button.

Features of this stroller include: lockable swivel front wheel, all-terrain tires, parent tray, a children’s tray with 2 cup holders, a large storage basket, extra wide push handle, adjustable canopy with sunroof, 5-point safety harness, and reflectors on the footrest.

Evenflo Pivot Modular Travel System

The Evenflo Pivot Modular System is one of the best-selling baby stroller and car seat combos out there. There are 4 color varieties from what I can find.

While this stroller does have 4 wheels, Evenflo says they are “soft, but sturdy cruiser tires”. The rear tires are larger than the front.

This system is different than the first two in that the stroller’s frame has 6 modes of use. It converts from an infant car seat frame stroller, to stroller seat, and also to carriage mode. It really is a luxury travel system!

The system comes with Evenflo’s Rollover Tested SafeMax infant seat. One of the few car seats to ever be tested for rollover impact, compared to just an impact accident.

The maximum weight for this stroller is 35 pounds.

These systems all include an infant car seat, one base, and the stroller. Keep in mind, if you have already purchased an infant car seat, there is probably a stroller to accommodate it! You don’t have to purchase a new seat just to get a stroller.
